As an Asian American growing up in the United States, my family and I were always munching on delicious Asian snacks. We loved them for their amazing Asian flavors and tasty ingredients, but they were often hard to find outside of Asia. I created Umami Snacks to change that. My taste buds have taken me all over the world in search of new and exciting flavors and now, I’m on a mission to share my delicious discoveries with you, one exciting flavor at a time.

What is Umami?
Umami is that indescribable, mouthwatering, savory mmmmm taste you get when you eat something oh-so-delicious. At the beginning of the 20th century, Japanese scientist Kikunae Ikeda names that amazing taste umami, うま味 in Japanese, which can be translated into “pleasant savory taste.” Also known as the 5th taste, umami is natural in many foods including shrimp, soy sauce, tomatoes, mushrooms, seaweed, and cheese.
